Are the ripples on the left side an artifact of the image capture, or part of the rendition? They add a great deal to the image.

This is a powerful psychological statement that supports many identifications. It is Art.

Thank you so much, I’m really touched that it spoke to you, this is a piece that I started years ago and left unfinished. Recently I went through some old sketchbooks and pulled out some that still spoke to me and went back in with the fine liner. The ripples are signs of careless storage I’m afraid, as I have so many sketchbooks with half finished things that they often make it into drawers or shelves and are then forgotten. When it came to looking at this one, I decided to incorporate the ripples into the pattern as I couldn’t think of a way to get rig of them without loosing some of the image that was already there. I think it’s a good example of how honouring mistakes or the unexpected can lead to something you can build on.
